Abby is an experienced illustrator working within a wide variety of commercial illustration for over 10 years. Collaborating with clients of all sizes has ensured she is well-versed in participating in all types of projects involving visual concepts and stylistic ideas, to bring clients’ visions to life.
Abby enjoys working with a variety of mediums. These are typically acrylic inks/paints and gouache, often mixed with a transparent glaze medium. This makes the inks and paints less opaque and allows for the inky texture to come through. Watercolour pencils, markers, and pastels are also part of her work, where adding finer detail and a strong sense of line, movement, and texture is required.
The British countryside and nature is of constant inspiration for Abby, and one of her favourite subjects to illustrate. With this being one of the central concepts for Northbrook and its estate map, it was a project that was met with excitement.
When forming ideas and sketches for the estate map, a significant amount of research was conducted about its environment, including the vines and the wildlife that call it ‘home’. Abby intended the commission to be accurate, whilst using artistic licence to create a map that enables the viewer to gain insights into the estate’s natural surroundings.
From a design perspective, Abby has chosen to highlight the estate’s unique characteristics, ensuring that a wide variety of animated wildlife is featured within the composition. This includes the key aspects of the Northbrook Farm house, the vineyard tasting room, Vernon Hill house; and emphasising the hares and foxes that live on the estate, and that make up the Northbrook logo.
